Both doctors have had extensive experience in the area of Liver disease. Dr Dorrington is particularily well known and respected on the Gold Coast for his involvement with Hepatitis C. He initiated the early trials involving Interferon treatment for people with Hepatitis C at Gold Coast Hospital and more recently the use of Combination therapy. Dr Dorrington has also been involved for many years with the local Hep C support group plus is a regular presenter at Hepatitis C education seminars for GP’s and the general public.

The Liver Centre was set up with the valued assistance of Schering – Plough Pty Ltd who manufacture the medication used for Hepatitis C treatment. We are grateful for their ongoing support and encouragement.

The Aims of the Liver Centre are:

To provide an information and support service to the Gold Coast population about various liver diseases
To provide local contact details of what’s available on the Gold Coast in regard to diagnosis, treatment and support for various liver conditions
To provide treatment for Hepatitis C in a pleasant environment that respects people’s confidentiality and freedom of choice
To promote community awareness of liver diseases and how they impact on peoples lives
To help reduce stigma and discrimination related to some forms of liver disease
To present up to date research findings as they come to hand.
To answer frequently asked questions on liver disease.

Information and Support:

People can phone or call in to the Liver Centre from Monday to Friday – 9am to 5pm. In regard to Hepatitis C, a trained nurse/counsellor is available to answer questions and provide counselling in regard to Hepatitis C diagnosis, management and treatment.

Resources:

Through a variety of community based organisations we can provide the public with a range of printed resources on liver disease. We also encourage people to join the various support groups on the Gold Coast to obtain further information.
